Maintaing our skin in colder weather months

Taking care of your skin during the colder months can be a challenge, but it’s essential to maintain healthy, glowing skin all year round. Remember to treat your skin with gentle and hydrating products, protect it from the harsh winter elements, and stay hydrated. And don’t forget about your lips, hands, and other areas that may need a little extra TLC during the winter months. With a few simple tips, you can keep your skin looking and feeling its best.  As someone who loves winter, these simple tips can keep your skin looking and feeling its best.

First, and this may be where I lose you, avoid taking long, hotter than the fiery pits of hell hot showers, as the high temperatures can strip the skin of natural lipids, leading to dryness and irritation. Instead, shorter and cooler showers followed by the application of a rich moisturizer can help keep the skin hydrated and supple. Another useful tip is to layer hydrating products to provide additional moisture to the skin. This may include applying a hydrating serum or a barrier repair product before applying moisturizer and/or SPF. This helps to provide an added boost of hydration to the skin.

Furthermore, it is crucial to protect and repair the skin barrier, which can be compromised by cold air, dry indoor heating, and hot showers. What is the Skin Barrier? The skin barrier is the outermost layer of the skin, also known as the stratum corneum. It serves as a protective barrier between your body and the environment, preventing water loss and keeping harmful substances out of your skin. The skin barrier also helps to maintain the skin’s hydration levels and protects against irritants, allergens, and bacteria. It is important to protect the skin barrier because a compromised barrier can lead to dryness, redness, itching, and even infections. This is particularly important during the winter season when the cold and dry weather can weaken the skin barrier and make it more susceptible to damage. A healthy skin barrier can help prevent moisture loss and promote optimal skin health. Using a creamy cleanser and incorporating gentle exfoliation into your routine can also help keep the skin hydrated and soft. Additionally, applying lip balm and using a humidifier at night can help combat dryness and promote supple, healthy skin. It is also vital to remember to wear sunscreen during the winter season, as harmful UV rays can still penetrate through clouds and cause skin damage. Lastly, staying hydrated through food and drink can help support overall skin health and prevent dryness.

If you’re experiencing dryness and flakiness during winter, there are some ingredients that can help.

1. Hyaluronic acid is a moisture-binding ingredient that can help keep your skin hydrated.

2. Squalane is another ingredient that can help maintain skin moisture levels, keeping your skin soft and smooth.

3. Beta-glucan is a natural polysaccharide that can soothe and protect the skin, while peptides can help to boost collagen production and improve skin elasticity.

4.  Cannabidiol or CBD is also known for its anti-inflammatory properties that can help reduce redness and irritation in the skin.

5. Glycerin is a humectant that can help to attract and retain moisture in the skin.

When looking for skincare products that are suitable for winter, it’s important to look for ones that contain these ingredients. Some products that I would recommend include hyaluronic acid serums, squalane-infused moisturizers, beta-glucan face masks, peptide-rich eye creams, CBD-infused face oils, and glycerin-based body lotions. These products can help keep your skin moisturized, plump, and healthy during the winter season.  Remember to treat your skin with gentle and hydrating products, protect it from the harsh winter elements, and stay hydrated. And don’t forget about your lips, hands, and other areas that may need a little extra TLC during the winter months. By following these easy tips, you’ll be well on your way to enjoying beautiful, healthy, and radiant skin all winter long.
